Mark Wainberg, renowned researcher and member of the Québec biotechnology industry, has died


Montréal (Québec) April 14, 2017 – It is with great sadness that BIOQuébec has learned of the death of Mark Wainberg, an internationally-acclaimed researcher in the fight against HIV/AIDS. 

This scientific expert made remarkable contributions to the biotechnology industry. Mark Wainberg was the driving force behind Biochem Pharma, the first major biopharmaceutical company in the province, where he spearheaded the discovery and development of 3TC, one of the first drugs to effectively combat HIV.  

Through their collaborations, their breakthroughs, and their discoveries, institutional researchers such as Mark Wainberg are the heart of the life sciences industry. His outstanding contribution reflects the ground work done by local researchers and entrepreneurs who create biotechnology companies to further the development and marketing of various treatments, including those designed to save lives.
