The fourth edition of Sweet Biopharma Day, which concluded successfully on October 9 at Espace Tonik in Sainte-Julie, once again showcased the vitality and collaborative spirit of Quebec's biopharmaceutical industry. On October 4th, Biodextris, a member of BIOQuébec, inaugurated its brand-new facilities, made possible through an investment of nearly $25 million. These state-of-the-art infrastructures are designed to support the development of complex bioprocesses and biological products, further solidifying the company's role in life sciences innovation in Quebec.

Laval, Québec & West Palm Beach, Florida, October 13, 2023 — BIOQuébec and BioFlorida, preeminent life sciences associations from Québec and Florida, are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement is set to intensify collaboration and bolster industry growth in of both regions.

A CRO, or contract research organization, is a company that provides, on a contractual basis, services in the biomedical research field. Given their crucial role in the development of new treatments and technologies, as well as their economic importance, BIOQuébec and CATALIS, with financial support from the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, conducted a study of Quebec CROs to chart the sector’s impact and measure its growth, strengths, and needs.

BIOQuébec commissioned The JBL Group to produce a comprehensive account of the situation by first, rigorously documenting the Quebec healthcare system’s recommendation process for Quebec-based innovations and secondly, to develop, with industry partners, public policy proposals that would support the Quebec biopharmaceutical industry’s innovations and development. BIOQuébec’s review was prompted by a widespread perception among many members that Quebec-based drugs and biopharmaceutical industry products were unfavourably considered by the Quebec health and social services network.

On December 10th, 2021, BIOQuébec and other players in the life sciences industry in Quebec sent several federal elected officials their serious concerns regarding the coming into force of the PMPRB reform. As leading representatives of the Quebec life sciences sector who actively and strategically contribute to the country's economy, they asked that the implementation of the PMPRB reform be suspended. A year later, on December 5th, 2022, new developments compel Montréal InVivo, Sherbrooke Innopole and BIOQuébec to reiterate this request. A new request for the postponement of the coming into force of new guidelines has therefore been formulated as part of the PMPRB's consultation process.
